This is one of the many reasons why it's important, in any kind of magic, to focus entirely on bringing positive energy to what you want to build up, rather than directing negative energy toward what you want to tear down. People who are in a group under false pretenses, especially if they're agents provocateurs who are there to lure people into committing crimes, will usually find that positive focus intensely uncomfortable, and will either back away fast or loudly insist on trying to change the focus to negativity; in either case, they can be identified and excluded that way. Alternatively, they may be drawn into the groupmind and change their loyalties. Did you ever read G.K. Chesterton's novel The Man Who Was Thursday?
