"A lot of literature" could mean "a lot of literature making reasonable and surprisingly plausible speculation, it's just that it's speculation that involved connections only scholars would have been aware of enough things to be able to draw", and they might have been asking if there was anything analogous in relation to divine names. In that context, maybe they thought "nobody knows" means "nobody knows anything like primary evidence or anything particularly dispositive", rather than "nobody knows anything and it's hopeless even for well-informed scholars to make any useful speculations that a novice couldn't also".

Communication is in some respects like software engineering. What you thought you meant isn't necessarily what the process on the other end could entirely reasonably interpret you as having meant. Sometimes debugging is necessary.
