Unsurprisingly, those were also the examples that came first to my mind. That's the normal endpoint of a First World War-style conflict, and of course that's exactly the rulebook the Russian army started using as soon as it became clear that current technology makes blitzkrieg as outdated as a Macedonian phalanx.
