Toward Ecosophy

Oh, that happens fairly often. During the making of the film version of The Big Sleep, the scriptwriters were trying to figure out how to work in the scene where the chauffeur is found dead in a car that was driven off a pier into the ocean. They read the novel over and over again, trying to figure out how it fit into the plot, and couldn't make any sense of it. They ended up calling Raymond Chandler, the author, who confessed that he didn't remember why he'd put that scene in the novel!
