Drinking beer to bring in milk was an established fact among the African ladies who made up most of my social circle at the time my first two were born, to the point that they gave me six-packs!
Alas, I dislike beer, so gave it all to my husband who does like it. Fortunately I had no problems with supply.
It was not a tribal nor a regional conviction, either, the ladies were from all over the continent.
