We happen to know quite a bit about the pyramids, because the ancient Egyptians were highly literate -- stones on some pyramids still have graffiti painted on them from their construction crews, for example, and the financial records for the construction of some pyramids have been found. The work crews themselves were enthusiastic -- they weren't slaves, they were young men paid to come work on the pharaoh's projects during the flood season when there wasn't anything else to do -- but they don't seem to have had any magical knowledge. There were priests and priestesses busy all the time in and around the construction sites, though, and they handled the metaphycial heavy lifting.
We don't know about the mounds. If the societies that built them were literate, no trace of the records have survived.
