Ok, so not really something that can be done in a month, but kinda close-ish... Do you have a daily banishing/balancing practice? Open to one?
For me, developing the Sphere of Protection of a period of many weeks has been powerful and productive on many levels. If you look under "Most Popular Tags" on the left sidebar of this site, click on "sphere of protection" and there are instructions over multiple posts. You will add a new part each week. By the end of the fifth week, your daily practice will have the opening and closing and all four elements and the four cardinal directions. Along the way, it can feel strange because you will be doing something partial - almost like getting a massage on only one side of your body; but I've found that paying attention to those sensations can be quite illuminating.
I've also had trouble in the past with completing things I start - there is/was something healing about doing the SOP work. Instead of learning it whole-hog and then committing to doing it every day, building it up slowly and piecemeal emphasized, and taught me to tolerate, the feelings of "incompleteness" and "work in progress."
I've also had problems with doing something as written/given. I love to create (music, stories, etc.) and I felt that I should add my own spin to everything. I believe this actually added to my failures to continue/complete various endeavors. By modifying them, I was taking control in situations where I was intended to be receptively learning. My most recent foray into the SOP, I have been extremely strict in doing it as writ, and to much greater effect than multiple previous attempts.
I believe this SOP work can also help with the journaling JMG recommended. (It has for me.)
