The picture? I'm working my way through photos of my lineage, focusing on the teachers whose work has influenced me and the teachers who influenced them in turn. The honoree two weeks ago, Violet Firth Evans aka Dion Fortune, had the great advantage of coming of age when the British occult community was close to its apogee, and she had plenty of teachers. The most important of them was this man, Dr. Theodore Moriarty, an Irish Freemason and occultist. After a life spent traveling the world, he settled in England in 1916 and began teaching his own offshoot of Theosophy, which he called Universal Theosophy. Dion Fortune was one of his students, and she used him as the model for her fictional occult detective, Dr. Taverner. Those of my readers interested in such things will want to know that one of Moriarty's books, The Mystery of Man, has recently been reprinted.
