If you only did it once, and then walked away from it, you're unlikely to suffer from much in the way of blowback. My advice, if you still feel uncomfortable about it -- or if you'd like to do something to help this poor battered republic of ours -- would be to do something aimed at a positive goal. It could be as simple as getting an image of the Statue of Liberty, burning a candle in front of it, and concentrating on the intention that the ideals of liberty and democracy will be renewed in this nation, and attract the love and commitment of its people. Put that in your own words, choose your own time, place, and ritual format, and as far as possible, don't let anyone else know that you're doing it -- the working will be stronger that way.
