1) Good heavens, yes. Edmond Bordeaux Szekely was still around in the 1970s, and his books were extremely popular in the macrobiotic circles I ran with -- I still have some of them. He was an odd duck of the classic Western esoteric variety, with his own very lively system of Essene spirituality, vegetarian diet, and health practices. The International Biogenic Society is apparently still in existence in a small way.
2) Meditation, divination, blundering in a fog, and occasional bursts of dumb luck. That's certainly the best recipe I've been able to come up with!
3) That makes enormous sense, and there are hints in some of the old occult lore about such beings, though nothing particularly well developed.
