That is exactly the same in my profession: architecture. The only acceptable way to design is to throw out two and half millennia of evolution in Classical/Western architecture, and subject your clients to the horrors of the latest fad. When I suggest that our local Institution of advanced class signaling should build in a form that has served them well for 250 years, I am subject to withering looks. I do point out that the Broken Accordion will be as beloved in 40 years as the Science Library is today. We are currently being infected by a plague of ugly new buildings which will be readily identifiable as built in the late teens, about 5 years behind the cutting edge in NYC & London. The worst are the designs from the Vatican of American Architecture, the Harvard GSD. Not even a house renovation on College Hill is immune.
