That specific episode was rather pivotal for me. The doctor (June Lockhart) 'reversed' the polarity of the machine when an escaped serial killer forced her to use it to cure him and instead killed him. When the ship's doctor told her 'you did the right thing' her response was 'no doctor, I did the necessary thing'. Probably not an exact quote, but the meaning was there and I've spent many a year unpacking the difference. It's become a bedrock of my personal philosophy.
