Theodor ReussIt's almost midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. With certain exceptions, any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. Please note:  Any question received after then will not get an answer, and in fact will just be deleted. (I've been getting an increasing number of people trying to post after these are closed, so will have to draw a harder line than before.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.0 of The Magic Monday FAQ hereAlso: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says.

The picture?  I'm working my way through photos of my lineage, focusing on the teachers whose work has influenced me and the teachers who influenced them in turn.  Like Allan Bennett and George Cecil Jones, who were introduced over the last two weeks,
this week's honoree was a teacher of Aleister Crowley. Theodor Reuss was a German occultist and Freemason who, like our past honoree Sylvester Gould, was a member of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Light, the successor order of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor (HB of L). He founded and headed the Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO), a magical lodge originally envisioned by Austrian occultist Carl Kellner, which passed on the occult traditions of the HB of L and certain specific teachings that originated in another of our earlier honorees, African-American occultist Paschal Beverly Randolph. Reuss passed on the teachings of the OTO to Crowley and eventually made him the head of the OTO in the English-speaking world, setting off a cascade of events that would make a first-rate melodrama or a really good tell-all book. Since I'm not a member of the OTO, my only connection with any of that story is that one of my teachers was taught by a student of a student of Reuss...

Good Evening,

Big thanks to JMG for the Modern Order of Essenes attunement yesterday, and I hope March is not coming in like too much of a lion for everyone here.

To Share: I've tried to put together a short(ish) summary of Jordan Peterson's approach to analyzing myths. The short version is that it's a simplified/abstracted take on Jungian archetypes, and it's helpful for a wide variety of stories, even if it's not the best-suited tool to every story: https://jpowellrussell.com/#jordan_peterson_s_framework_for_myth

To Ask: JMG, if you're willing to share, I'm curious what doing the MOE (or similar) attunements is like from your end. Do you get a clear impression of the folks on the other end, or something more general? Is the timing of the interchanges very specific, or more general? Again, if you're not able or willing to share, no worries, I'm just trying to use this as an avenue to better understanding ritual and/or astral phenomena.

As always, thanks very much to JMG and everyone else here.

To any who will have them, I put forth my blessings and best wishes,
Jeff

That’s interesting that you can feel emotion at a distance but have trouble perceiving it up close. I tried asking Sonkitten if the same is true for him but the topic was a bit over his head.

“Those readers who have worked with the Greater Mysteries degrees of the Dolmen Arch will recognize some similarities between this material and the work they have learned. The two methods of healing are not identical but they're closely related and can be combined. Experimentation will show how to do this.”

I have avoided asking any questions about this combination due to this comment, but I have reached a point where I feel like I do need to get some input on the results of experimentation to determine how to best proceed with the MOE training. I interpreted “they’re not identical but can be combined” to mean that I could learn to do both as entirely separate practices and then later consider layering them in a healing session. As such, I’ve been mostly keeping MOE practice to early in the day and DA practice to late in the day.

For most of my time with the MOE material, I haven’t felt anything moving between the hands during the healing hands empowerment or when using the healing hands. In contrast, I do feel the energy moving when using the Dolmen Arch techniques quite strongly. I also feel the Healing Jewels heat up during empowerment, clearly feel the palm centers active throughout the day, and feel like empowering the palm centers in the morning increases my ability to sense and work with nwyfre in general and in particular makes work with the Dolmen Arch healing circuit even stronger. Judging by results, it also seems that in spite of not feeling it, I have successfully used the MOE healing technique to good effect.

The issue is that I’ve regularly gotten to the point where I feel like I can start to feel energy moving during the MOE healing technique, but it doesn’t feel like it’s exclusively coming out of the right palm and entering the left palm, rather like it’s coming out of both and kind of “wants” me to open the above and below connections of the DA technique. Basically, when I start to feel it, it feels like the DA technique, and I’ve kind of pushed this feeling to the side, assuming I’m making a mistake of not keeping the techniques separate, and tried to force it to feel like it’s only moving in the one way “circle” described in the MOE papers, at which point I feel nothing.

For one recent MOE healing, I decided to take a cue from what I understand to be John Gilbert’s approach, and totally relax and not “try” to feel it moving at all and simply ask the Divine to guide the flow. The above and below connections of the DA circuit immediately opened up, and the feeling during the healing work was quite notable. Further, I feel like the “foot centers” connecting to the Telluric Current opened even more strongly than they have before, to the point where they parallel the way the palm centers are empowered, connecting me even more strongly to the above and below DA version of the circuit. (This was after the Healer attunement, so I don’t know if there’s any kind of foot center awakening expected with that.)

So I’m starting to feel like I should just abandon the notion that “can be combined” means “kept isolated except at specific times when they’re overlaid” and simply let the techniques fully merge in my practice.

But I’ve wondered if perhaps I’m subconsciously retreating to the “familiar ground” of the DA technique that I already know, and if instead I should push through it and keep them isolated in order to properly learn the MOE technique.

What do you think?

I know a guy who got mixed up with the Yakuza several years ago and now his life has fallen apart. He was a respected craftsman but his physical appearance has become a shell of his former self and now he's apparently homeless. Recently he sought refuge in a Zen Buddhist temple to try and turn his life around and apparently once he entered the gates and began to speak with someone they gently took him by the arm and led him back outside.

It sounds like he's got some really awful karma. I remember a story about one of the contributors here who sold his soul to a demon and a mosque took him in. Obviously there are unknown details to this situation, but generally speaking what would you recommend for someone in this predicament? Keep knocking on doors until he finds a place that can help?

As usual, JMG, I will understand if you don’t put this through.

I am not sure what exactly your friend was looking for when he went to the temple, but if it was with the hope of being taken in, leaving behind his current life to embark on a new life path of Buddhist study and practice, there is a longstanding tradition in Japan of initially turning away such seekers. The ones who stay outside for three days straight are the ones who are let in, finally; this small ordeal is a traditional way of indicating that one is actually serious.

Wedding / Engagement Ring Re-use

Date: 2023-03-06 06:00 am (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
Hi JMG,
I have a question about wedding / engagement rings. My apologies if this not in your area of knowledge. I have a ring from my parents wedding, which was rather tumultuous and chaotic, including infidelity. I am interested in a couple options to use the ring as an engagement ring for my partner that would probably become part of her wedding band. I am on good terms with both of my parents if that matters in this process. I am looking at 4 possibilities for the ring.

1) Cleaning with vinegar and then alcohol and using it as is.
2) Having it modified by a goldsmith with some other either lab-made or antique gems (maybe aquamarine, her birthstone) and maybe some additional gold as needed and then giving it to her.
3) Have the goldsmith remove the diamonds, and melt down the gold to remake a new ring with a new design and perhaps use those same diamonds and/or any other good gems I can find.

4) Have the ring melted down and donate the money to charity (ie start completely fresh). Buy or have a ring made that has lab-made gems or an antique one that feels right.

My questions are -

1) Is there anything in these processes (the cleaning, the modifying, the melting down) that might cleanse any of the what I'm going to call 'negative energy' this ring may have absorbed from my parents' marriage?

2) Is this ring a bad idea in general? Does it not matter since I am a result of my parents marriage?

3) Anything special I should do with any gems I come across if they are to be used in a ring?

My partner has expressed an interest in not having freshly mined gems, etc because of the working conditions surrounding them. I imagine whatever gems I add should be found on one of my/ our hikes ie probably non-precious at best or should come from a good situation. I have no occult training so can't perform workings, and am not a member of any church or religious organization that could bless the ring.

If there is a body of knowledge or books you know of that you'd rather refer me to that would also be much appreciated. The information out there I've found so far looks heavily clouded with marketing.

Thanks so much for the advice. If I sell the ring can I use that money to help with the costs of the ring or wedding ceremony? Or should I not use it on the wedding but can use it on mundane things like Princess Cutekitten suggests? Or is it best to give the ring back or donate it?

My parent gave it to me hoping it would help with the wedding-related costs, but if even using the money from it brings the karma / energy from their marriage into my new household and I can't change that, I'd prefer not to.

Luckily I found out there are a couple sources of aquamarine and other beryls in my state and have now found out that people still go rock-hunting in the old mines and near them and there is a place that cuts and polishes these stones, so I can get some aquamarine that hasn't been mined with child or slave labor or lots of nasty environmental consequences.

Thanks again!

JMG, could you elaborate a bit more on why this would be a bad idea. I am in a similar situation and was planning to ask a jeweller to melt the gold and make new rings out of them. I was thinking of this as alchemy, i.e. turning my memories of a bad wedding from my parent into a happy one.

Is it the memories associated with it? Or is it something intrinsic to the gold now? How would that be different if the gold were sold and someone else wore the rings?

Don’t use vinegar! It could wreck the finish.

Another possibility is to skip the ring altogether and put the money towards house improvements, the possible appearance of a baby, charity, or whatever. My father had a ring but didn’t wear it for decades, as he worked with machinery. He was going to resume wearing it when he retired but by then they couldn’t find it. He didn’t recall pawning it when they were young and poor, so they figured it went walkabout during one of their moves. The lack of a ring did not keep the marriage from lasting 67 years, 364 days. (He died the day before the 68th anniversary.). So don’t be embarrassed to do without. Love and loyalty reside in the soul, not on a finger.

Also, congratulations, and I wish the two of you a happy 68 years!

Ok thanks for your thoughts! And saving the ring from vinegar. I've decided to go with aquamarine from a local source and see if I can get a jeweler to make a ring with that so it will hopefully be something with a lot more of my effort involved getting it made and maybe a bit less money which is what I would prefer to make it more special. At a minimum more of the money will be staying local or regional than buying something from the chain stores. If I could make the rings myself I would.

To JMG or the commentariat: Is anyone aware of any tradition within Christianity similar to the Jewish Qabalah? I’m looking for a system of individual spiritual development similar to the Golden Dawn, not a church community. I would prefer to avoid reliance on a priesthood, or having to assent to any specific dogma.

Not JMG.

I don't know if this will meet your needs, but you might wish to take a look at the Societas Lucis Viventis. They have a web presence which you'll find easily by googling their name. It's pretty much traditional Aurum Solis material (and therefore very similar to the Golden Dawn), with Qabalah and all, but in an explicitly Christian form. According to their website, they don't promote any dogma in particular.

Have you heard about Agostino Taumaturgo's new effort to create a sodality or parachurch group for Christian occultists (mostly Roman Catholic and high church Protestants)? The effort falls more on the traditional, orthodox Christian side. Though it is still very much in the early planning stages.

An Oddball Question

I lost my glasses about 6 months ago. We took the house apart with no luck. I figured I had knocked them off my night table into the wastebasket, then obliviously emptied same the next day, especially since frequent appeals to St. Anthony did not lead either of us to the glasses. I kept putting off getting new ones in hopes of finding them. This was not a big problem as I’m old enough to be getting farsighted, though I do need them to read grocery-aisle signs.

Now. The other day I was kneeling atop my bed dusting. My glasses fell onto, and bounced off, the back of my heel. The angle was such that they had to have fallen straight down. If you’re wondering how I knew it was my glasses, I can only assure you that nothing in this world feels like a pair of glasses falling from the ceiling and bouncing off your heel.

Any idea how this could happen?

Is more to this tradition? I've had similar things happen that prevented regular activities from occurring and then, weeks later, the item would return in a place I could not have missed. It's happened several times throughout my life.

I got the impression that disrupting the routine was the point. Though I wasn't sure who the beneficiary of that interruption was, there was a sense that some calamity was averted.

There was also a cat standing there but for the life of me I don't know where they would have found it...

Such things happen quite often here: sometimes they are returned - found in a most unlikely or even impossible place - and sometimes they just vanish forever.

There's usually a disinct element of humourous mischief in it (different to the unpleasant and malevolent haunting of 20 years ago) to which I now respond:

'Oh, that was a good one, very funny! Really, a master-stroke! But may I, please, have it back?'

I consider it's best to share the joke. There's certainly an element of intelligence in it, not merely random disappearances.

To my delight it occurred recently, while I was in the room, to a highly scientific friend, a Professor of Medicine at Cambridge University with zero interest in the occult, and left him open-mouthed but unable find any rational explanation other than an invisible, joking 'house spirit'.

The dog sometimes seems to watch something invisible to me, but never shows any sign of fear.

I reason that a house with a pleasant joker in residence, or even just passing through now and then, can't be a terribly bad place to live.

I once lost a banana in a 150 square foot dorm room. 4 people searched for over an hour and finally found it between the couch/bed cushions. I can only blame my own talent for losing things and not the fairies on that one.

That said, many years later in 2016 when my husband and I bought our current little house, I started putting out bird feeders and water for miscellaneous wandering animals. The first winter there was snowy and blustery. We were storing birdseed on the rickety old front porch and I had the S hook for one of the feeders in my hand. I was on the steps when the S hook slipped and fell into a crack between two of the steps. I knew there was no freaking way I was retrieving the hook until spring, so I made do with some hairbands and heaven knows what else and put the filled bird feeders back up that way. I did not tell anyone about the missing S hook or where it was. I just chalked it up to life being annoying. The next morning, I got in my car to drive to work. I felt something on my behind. The S hook was on my car seat. The car had been locked the whole night! I am convinced it was the fairies.

Hi JMG

1: I'm hoping you can help me clarify the nature of non-physical perception. In the past I've thought that losing awareness of the physical body was a part of most experiences but I've started to question that recently.

I've been trying astral projection using the method you've described here before of building an astral form and then moving my awareness into it. During the "projection" I'm aware of my physical body at all times but I'm also getting impressions from my projected form.

Is this dual perception common?

2: Does planetary charity still work if you only promise and make one donation on the right planetary hour? I'd expect it to not be as effective but would it backfire?

That seems to be hinting at a system of drawing a larger geometrical pattern based on drawn cards, one that may reveal more subtle meanings than a few cards interpreted on their own.

Is this a new idea or a developed part to be revealed through meditation?

Dear JMG,
If you've been following the events in Ukraine at all, you might have seen coverage of the increasing use of pagan rune-based symbols on the Ukrainian side. This isn't new: the extreme nationalist/neo-nazi movements in Ukraine have been using them for years, but now they seem to pop up everywhere on uniforms and even at official functions.
These symbols were, of course, extensively used by the Nazi Waffen SS as unit symbols. The Wolfsangel, for example, was the symbol of the Waffen SS Division "Das Reich," which not only murdered its way around the Eastern Front, but committed brutal crimes in France in 1944 after the Landings, most notably the infamous massacre of the population of Oradour-sur-Glane. What's extraordinary is that French TV recently broadcast a sympathetic portrait of a female Ukrainian sniper whose uniform prominently displayed this patch.
In answer to criticism, pro-Ukrainians have said that these runes long predate the Nazis and anyway they've been used for decades by rock groups and in popular culture generally, so they have no significance.
My question is, is there anything going on here? Does the use of runes associated with the Waffen SS have any real life consequences? What could be the implications for western nations of uncritical support of forces that use these symbols? Is there a chance of some kind of magical blow-back?

I have no idea about magical implications, but both sides use symbols to troll each other. The Russian side uses Soviet symbols (hammer and sickle) to troll Ukranians, the Ukranians use Third Reich stuff to troll the Russians.

Many Eastern Europeans (except Poles) don't see the Third Reich negatively. They see it as a fighter against Communism which then lost.

Using Nazi insignia serves a dual purpose. First, you can recruit gung ho guys from all over Europe to fight for you, secondly those governments then get rid off troublemakers. Franco used the same method when he sent Spanish volunteers to fight in Russia. He got rid off hardcore National Socialists while at the same remaining neutral.

>>>>Many Eastern Europeans (except Poles) don't see the Third Reich negatively. They see it as a fighter against Communism which then lost.<<<<<

You are plainly wrong. The wrath that Nazi Germany brought all over Europe isn't forgotten even now that most of that generation passed. It was also done with a custom dose of humiliation for each nation, and such memories of being designated as Untermensch (lesser human) don't fade so easily. Secondly, Nazi politics of war were not designated to fight communism - that's a delusion cultivated in certain alt right circles.

I'm trying to figure out if it would be possible to adapt Golden Dawn material to evoke Uranus/Neptune; so far I'm still practising it with the classical planets, so I'm definitely not there yet, but I hope to be fairly soon.

MOE Attunement question

Regular poster here, anonymous for privacy.

JMG, thanks very much for the attunement on Saturday! I suppose I‘m one of the people who gave off nervous vibes, see below…

I have a question related to the upcoming MOE work where I really need some help or advice.

About a week or so before this attunement, I started having really strong etheric feelings (buzzing, tingling, etc), on a level I‘ve never had before (a week of etheric thunderstorms).

I‘m used to having such etheric feelings, e.g. when I‘m working through stuff, letting go of things (e.g. in work similar to Octagon Society), or when getting in touch with the divine (planetary work). All of that is fine, mostly pleasant and doesn‘t scare me, but this time was a whole new level, both in intensity and in duration.

The etheric feelings alone would have been unpleasantly intense, but they had some physical effects on my body which seriously worried me (not going into details here, as I‘m not looking for medical advice!!). At some points during last week, I was seriously considering at which point I‘d need to see an allopathic doctor to get treatment in order to avoid potentially serious health issues - which is something I avoid like the plague.

I.e. this was seriously too much. Also, I wasn‘t sure for a few days what was causing it. I had a couple of other working hypotheses, but since the whole thing stopped effective immediately with the attunement (I‘ve only had some very mild, nice and balmy occasional „after-feelings“), it‘s probably safe to say it was some form of build up to that.

Such build up effects are quite common for me, I tend to get them whenever I do timed occult work, e.g. planetary work. But usually, they are noticeable, but gentle and well bearable, mostly on the etheric or astral, with only minor physical effects if at all (say, some sleepless hours in the night before), and they last the night before, or maybe a day or two. (In comparison: The build up effects to the first attunement have been along these lines)

This was a wholly different kind of beast - and one I don‘t care to repeat.

That’s why I would really need your help or advice: Is there anything I can or should do, maybe starting now, to make sure the next attunement build up won‘t be as intense (and definitely not even more intense)?

My best idea so far was that maybe the MOE energy has been re-structuring some parts of my etheric body. So in order to make that less intense, maybe I should intensify my practice, so some of that restructuring is done beforehand? But I have no clue whether that is right or not.

Any advice appreciated!

PS: I‘d really like to continue with the MOE work. It‘s doing me a lot of good, it feels like the right thing to pursue at this time, and divination had been positive, too. So giving it up altogether (if I even could - I suppose some effects can‘t be wiped out, can they?) would be my absolutely last resort.

Also, I know I don‘t have to take the attunements, but I‘m not sure this would help. At this point, it feels that I‘m so attuned (bad pun, sorry!) to the process that I might pick up on the next one even if I don‘t intent to participate - as I picked up on this one several days before, and frankly, I‘m not sure the issues and energy would have stopped by now if I hadn‘t taken the attunement on Saturday (I did consider this during last week when I wasn‘t sure about the cause, since I didn‘t want to add extra stress on top of the rest, but in hindsight I‘m _very_ glad I followed along!!)

Anyway, sorry for the longish explanation, but I really would need your expert help here.

Not a question as such but something provoked by various questions about the existence of previous civilisations on earth. Here's a quite even-handed discussion, with interesting comments, about the kind of scientific evidence that would be needed to provide proof or at least indications, that such civilisations existed.

50 gates of understanding

Hey jmg

I have been going through your “Paths of wisdom”, and I’ve begun memorising the 50 gates of understanding. I have a few questions.

1-have you had any new ideas on the theoretical and practical application of the 50 gates since you wrote that book?

2-most of the materials I’ve found on the 50 gates are from Jewish Kabbalah, how applicable is it to G.D Kabbalah?

Ok, but on the subject of meditation another question comes to me.

To help me memorise and meditate on the 50 gates I have made a diagram of 5 tree of life’s with the respective numbers in each sphere. However it occurred to me that since the tree of life is supposed to symbolise force rather than form, then maybe the 50 gates have their own geometric pattern that expresses them better than the tree does. Do you suppose this is possible?

JMG,

As always, thank you for this Q&A.

By chance I opened Levi's Doctrine and Ritual to the ritual section and started reading Chapter 4, The Conjuration of the Four. In this chapter Levi mentions domination of the spirits and uses phrases such as "one must impose the Verb of one's will upon the elements". One exorcises the elements in this practice. Levi also stresses how the elementary spirits "most often torment those who deal with them".

This is in comparison with the Golden Section's calling of the elements for the Sphere of Protection and what is basically a request for their help: "May the powers of XXXX bless and protect me.....".

Is there a difference between the Golden Section and Levi's view of how to interact with and the nature of, the elements?

After thinking over this and additional reading I believe Levi's view on the nature of the elements is similar with the Golden Section incorporating much of Levi's thought (e.g. "They indifferently reproduce good and evil, because they have no free will..." and "The mage who employs their cooperation takes upon himself a terrible responsibility..."). I think the differences I've noted are the two different methods of interaction with them but posting this as a question to be sure and ask if there are, in fact, fundamental differences in the view on the nature of elements?

Glad I came across the Druid teachings first. Not hard to imagine that if you try to dominate the elements they will try to reciprocate in kind.

Interesting that the late medieval grimoire magic with it's view of the elements as hostile and to be dominated, was a good three hundred years into the new Faustian civilization (if counting 1300 as the beginning of the late medieval period).

Ecosophia Prayer List

tunesmyth: (Default)
From: [personal profile] tunesmyth
To those who are interested, here are all of the requests for prayer that have recently appeared across the Ecosophia community. Please feel free to add any or all of them to your prayers.

If I missed anybody on the full list, or if you would like to add a prayer request for yourself or anyone who has given you consent (or for whom a relevant person holds power of consent) to the list, please feel free to leave a comment below and/or at the prayer list page.

This week I would like to bring special attention to the following prayer:

...Boccaccio's friend and spiritual teacher "A", who fell unconscious a week ago; at first he was being kept in an artificially induced sleep by doctors, but that stage is over, and everyone is still waiting for A to wake up. With the permission of A's wife, Boccaccio asks for prayers for A's health and well being, and that A wakes up in the best possible state.

...Lp9's request on behalf of their hometown, East Palestine Ohio, for the safety and welfare of their people and all living beings in the area. The details coming out are still caught in the fog of war, and various claims of catastrophe and non-catastrophe are flying about, but the reasonable possibility seems to exist that this is an environmental disaster on par with the worst America has ever seen. At any rate, it is clearly having a devastating impact on the local area, and prayers are certainly warranted.

Finally, if there are any among you who might wish to join me in a bit of astrological timing, I pray each week for the health of all those with health problems on the list on the astrological Hour of the Sun on Sundays, bearing in mind the Sun’s rulerships of heart, brain, and vital energies. If this appeals to you, I invite you to join me.

Greetings JMG,

This question is open to you and others.

What is your view, and the view of the occult or alternative spiritual traditions on debt, and particularly interest based debt?

I ask cos I’ve been fairly embedded in the world of finance the last decade and and am starting a banking and credit business, and thus the moral nature of what I’m about to embark on has been heavily on my mind lately.

While I am not from the Abrahamic tradition, all 3 of them seem to heavily prohibit interest rate based lending as a type of corruption. This proscription have been severely watered down via both legalistic interpretations (as among the Jews) as well as the general reformation and dilution (only high interest rates, rather than all interest rates as was previously considered) of the scripture that happened in the renaissance as banking took off and was closely linked to the church (incl the medicis installing one of their own).

In the world we are in now, this financial structure of debt based currencies, trade, finance and payments seems impossible to unseat without massive collateral damage.

Also, it’s hard to dispute that time value of money ( measured by interest or discount rates) has been a very useful capital allocation mechanism to finance all types of entrepreneurship and science, which was very difficult before when it was only accessible to elites.

Yet, the argument that interest rate based structures may have pernicious effects on the human mind, spirit and society weighs on my mind. I’m spending time thinking of how I can try to do things differently (there are many interesting attempts on-going at non-commodity money or local credit networks/ledgers, mutual credit obligations to trade goods and services directly etc but nothing that has truly cracked it and can be a viable alternative to the world of finance we’re subject to).

Any thoughts are welcome.

PS. I cast a I Ching asking “what is the moral nature of interest rates” and it returned Unchanging 18 (corruption). Hah, funny.

Are you sure it's not simply saying that interest rates are a Saturnine phenomenon? Because interest rates, decay, and hard work are all very Saturnine phenomena. "Corruption" in your sense seems more like 11 (stagnation). Decay includes positive things like "soil", "bioremediation", and "zymurgy".

You should be able to get most of the Saturn associations from comparing English translations. One you might miss is that in Chinese each of the line readings is the same short length (four characters).

Interest rates are just how a private property market economy navigates certain naturally occurring tradeoffs, wherein you make a sacrifice of options that are slightly below your personally-market-clearing rate of return in order to free up resources for options that are slightly above your personally-market-clearing rate of return.

If you have to overcome interest-based finance, you might need a system of practice with a way of organizing and incentivizing a community's productive labor and capital allocation over time, that demonstrates itself to be better at benefiting from that kind of natural wealth-producing option, in a virtuous and balanced way, than the financial system is.

To give some idea of what this could look like: In an imaginary universe, where you had people who really understood on a visceral level how tradeoffs over time worked, and where they all had a consistent idea of how much they all cared about themselves and their beneficiaries now and in the future, you could get a situation where those people were naturally as productive as if they'd been lending and borrowing at interest, without any lending or borrowing at interest. What would normally have been a default on a loan in our universe would then, in that imaginary universe, just be an understandable failure from someone who was genuinely trying the-right-amount-of-hard. Not just in how hard they were working, but also in how carefully they were thinking through possibilities and realistically planning around long shots and misfortunes, and, in the long run, in how attentively they adjusted their habits of paying attention to some aspects of the world and not others, given the effects on what wealth-affecting possible outcomes they noticed. But then, all of that is like saying "in an imaginary universe where Communism worked". In our universe, if you tried to arrange people that way without either market discipline or a lot of non-obvious cultural technology, the enterprise would fail on many levels of kybernesis simultaneously. The usual economic terms are "free-rider problem" and "principal-agent problem", and there's also the sociobiology/ev-psych "coefficients of relatedness" to consider.

There's a little bit of social science about why a few communes succeed and most fail. Supposedly there was a finding where religious kibbutzim with more hours collectively spent in communal religious ritual time per week were more likely to succeed than secular kibbutzim. But I didn't find a citation. I did find that papers liked to bring up the question of what it does to a kibbutz or other kind of commune to be in implicit competition with an external market economy. That literature might be a good place to start reading, to understand what you'd have to get right.

When doing the planetary charity for Jupiter, how important is the incense? If I don't have Storax, will Frankincense do?

Not JMG, but maybe my (limited) experience is helpful as well:

I‘ve been using Sandalwood for Jupiter, and he seems to like it. ;-)

In general, after a bit of worrying about these things, I decided to approach it with common sense and the heart: if I invite a friend and know he or she likes a certain kind of tea, I‘ll try to serve that, just because they are important to me. If I don‘t have that kind, I‘ll brew up another kind of tea that they are likely to enjoy. And if they are „meh“ about it, I‘ll get something else for next time. I.e. I do my best, and listen to the response, but I don‘t worry about it anymore.

So far, that has served me well with all the planets (one of them very gently pointed out a certain sort of incense which I then happily got for them…).

Maybe this point of view helps. :-)

Mexican President and alux elves

Hi JMG

You might have seen the news coverage of the President of Mexico tweeting (in all seriousness) a picture of what he claimed to be an "alux" - which essentially seems to be the Mexican/Spanish name for a Faerie creature.

https://news.sky.com/story/mexican-president-andres-manuel-lopez-obrador-shares-photo-of-mythological-woodland-alux-on-social-media-12821580

Unsurprisingly he's been ridiculed for it in the mainstream media.

Do you think it's actually a faerie creature? And why would a world leader risk this kind of ridicule to post a picture like that?

If I a may. Well I don't know about the alux, it looks like any other fake creepypasta pictures despite that I do recognize the existence of non-physical beings. One reason is that our president is just not that smart... Even though I think the "detentes" (basically a christian charm to repel evil) he suggested for people to use during the pandemic was interesting, I wouldn't have said it on national T.V nor suggested it would save you either.

I don't think you give enough credit to our president, my friend.

Leaving aside the existence of alluxes (which I think are real, but probably not that photogenic). You may think of AMLO as the Mexican version of Donald Trump: he's got the adoration of the people and the personal charisma to pull off lots of nonsense, and he will use that to play his opponents like a fiddle. So the question is not what the president is thinking, but what is happening in Congress while he mumbles his rivals into a rabid frenzy.

Beliefs in otherworldly beings has never gone away. Back in the late 1990s a highway in County Clare, Ireland was rerouted due to a belief that a hawthorn tree was a fairy tree and ill luck would result from any attempt to chop it down. The highway was rerouted though this didn't stop some idiot from chain-sawing off the branches leaving only the trunk afterwards. But as I can personally attest from my own hawthorns, this was an exercise in futility as the tree regenerated back to its former glory as if nothing had happened.

People may laugh at the Mexican president but given the above comments about the reappearance of eyeglasses, it's clear that we have invisible neighbors.

Hi JMG & Commentariat--

1) I have made a new talisman that is meant to cause the truth to come out-- And it seems to be effective! I took it to court and my adversary lost his temper and said things that did not help his case. The judge saw through him, and I won. It seemed to help me and my counterparty in a contract negotiation to get to the bottom of the issues and make an agreement. However-- Raspberry jam effect! It also causes _me_ to be very truthful. I accidentally left it in my wallet one day when going to work, and found myself saying what I really thought when discretion might have been more helpful-- To me, at least!

Question: I notice that when I take the talisman somewhere far from home, I permanently lose something valuable to me. I have lost a small pocket knife and my favorite hat, so far. My sense is that the talisman is somehow taking payment for services rendered.
Is it typical for a talisman to take payment like this, or could something else be going on?

2) Blessing walk and healing results--
I have been working through the Modern Order of Essenes exercises, and have gotten to part 2 of the Blessing Walk (blessing humans and animals). I have been doing the healing exercises in my morning meditations and asking the universe to work through me to bring healing to those around me. Since I work in health care, there are a lot of people who need healing!

I notice that a lot of people coming to me are getting rapidly and unexpectedly better. For example, one person who lost all feeling and the use of the right arm was expected to never be able to use it again.
This person now can feel pain, has some sensation at her finger tips, and can lift her arm to shoulder height and move her fingers. Another person who cut part way thru a hand with a chain saw has had rapid healing of the wound and recovery of much of the function of the hand.

At the same time, a lot of my terminally ill patients are dying quickly at home of natural causes. There have been 12 such deaths in the last 2 weeks.

Question: Is this a case of healings and deaths working out a balance in the universe? Ie., if I continue to be a channel for healing, can I expect more deaths as well? Or would it be more correct to think of the home deaths of the elderly as healings in the sense that their suffering was limited at the ends of their lives?

Thank you for any insights you or my fellow readers can provide! I hope to get the healing attunement the next time you offer it.

Is this an astrological talisman? I wonder what the chart of the talisman looks like? Is the lord of the 2d house afflicted? Is Mercury afflicted in some way?
