Well, of course not. One of the things that baffles me about the way that people on the left approach magic is that they don't seem to be able to get their heads around the fact that they're facing opposition -- not just some sort of caricatured Lord Moldywarp figure who will cackle on cue and then slink off to an inevitable defeat, but competent, committed opponents who will exploit every single option they can find. It's as though they think that all they have to do is cast a spell, and the universe is obligated to give them whatever they happen to want...
Oh dear gods. The penny finally dropped.
They're approaching magic in exactly the same way that Hillary Clinton approached campaigning for president -- as though all they have to do is go through the motions, and then make plans for the victory party.
I wonder what's behind so breathtakingly counterproductive an attitude...
