Open (More or Less) Post on Covid 97

So it's time for another open post. The rules are the same as before:
1. If you plan on parroting the party line of the medical industry and its paid shills, please go away. This is a place for people to talk openly, honestly, and freely about their concerns that the party line in question is dangerously flawed and that actions being pushed by the medical industry et al. are causing injury and death. It is not a place for you to dismiss those concerns. Anyone who wants to hear the official story and the arguments in favor of it can find those on hundreds of thousands of websites.
2. If you plan on insisting that the current situation is the result of a deliberate plot by some villainous group of people or other, please go away. There are tens of thousands of websites currently rehashing various conspiracy theories about the Covid-19 outbreak and the vaccines. This is not one of them. What we're exploring is the likelihood that what's going on is the product of the same arrogance, incompetence, and corruption that the medical industry and its tame politicians have displayed so abundantly in recent decades. That possibility deserves a space of its own for discussion, and that's what we're doing here.
3. If you plan on using rent-a-troll derailing or disruption tactics, please go away. I'm quite familiar with the standard tactics used by troll farms to disrupt online forums, and am ready, willing, and able -- and in fact quite eager -- to ban people permanently for engaging in them here. Oh, and I also lurk on other Covid-19 vaccine skeptic blogs, so I'm likely to notice when the same posts are showing up on more than one venue.
4. If you don't believe in treating people with common courtesy, please go away. I have, and enforce, a strict courtesy policy on my blogs and online forums, and this is no exception. The sort of schoolyard bullying that takes place on so many other internet forums will get you deleted and banned here. Also, please don't drag in current quarrels about sex, race, religions, etc. No, I don't care if you disagree with that: my journal, my rules.
With that said, the floor is open for discussion.

Re: Rintrah
(Anonymous) 2023-06-19 04:55 am (UTC)(link)We all know it.
Or do we?
Returning to my latest fascination with this left vs right brain thing. . .
Perhaps we've taken 'left brain' rationality, reductionism, materialism, and so forth about as far as it can go, while simultaneously excluding/dismissing all the 'right brain' aspects of life that make life worth living as externalities, or silly nonsense, or whatever.
As a result, we've run out of 'materialism road', nobody can rationalize away our problems anymore, and so we've ended up with a disastrous and doomed system, which may have been avoidable if we'd paid a bit more attention to all that 'silly right brain' stuff instead of letting the 'left brain' completely run the show.
I'm not suggesting that we kid ourselves here - we're going to experience ramping problems as time goes on and the future does appear to be a choice of catastrophes - that much seems clear.
However, I will suggest that the worst potential catastrophe of all isn't death but is instead to condemn everyone to more of the same 'left brain' dominated world, because if the system does somehow manage to learn to live within ecological limits, then it will surely strip life of everything that makes it worth living, whereas any of the lesser catastrophes will at least provide opportunities for survivors to explore different and more satisfying options.
So, there is actually something to be optimistic about after all! :P
That said, if I do somehow manage to survive Geert's hypothesized 'hot virus' (if it happens), I can't say that I'm very excited about being the 'toolie' at 'schoolies' - the young can keep their psychedelic raves for themselves.
There's a famous essay titled "Why the future doesn't need us" - it discusses how a high-tech world won't need a mere human such as myself anymore: https://www.wired.com/2000/04/joy-2/
But it seems like there'd be no place for me in Rintrah's low-tech world of hallucinating youth either!
I guess I need to go my own way no matter how things play out, so I'd better keep on practicing :)

(Anonymous) 2023-06-19 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)Some people want a future where our brains are plugged directly into the internet. A future where nobody dies. A future where you can have whatever you want, no constraints on resources or the wishes of other people. A future where humans don't exist. A future where humanity colonizes space (and I suppose gets used to life permanently within walls, where life eternally hangs on the dependability of a fancy HVAC unit).
None of those futures appeal to me. Somebody wants them, though.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-20 04:12 am (UTC)(link)I have to admit though that I didn't really choose to be as isolated as I am. I'm just a 'right brain' dominant guy in a 'left brain' dominated world. You can't get really hardcore 'left brainers' to grok where you're coming from. It's made me a bad fit in an administrative capital.
Sometimes they accept your opinions and advice, even if they don't understand them, but it's like magic to them, and they're just as likely, or more likely, to hate you for it.
