That's a good comparison. In the dream, what made the Wlmnath dangerous was precisely that once you start fighting them, you get caught up in a frenzy of rage, lose track of everything else, and keep trying to fight them until you collapse from sheer exhaustion and they swarm over you and devour you. I'm far from sure that's entirely a metaphor.
As for Esus/Hesus, the difference is subtle. In some Druid traditions Esus is the chief of tree-spirits while Hesus is the same being, but acting as a messenger of Hu the Mighty.
