I am on a (anonymous) discussion forum for people in the same career as me. It's totally PMC dominated (myself included), but unusually it is *not* an echo chamber about COVID.
There's almost equal contingents who are very pro-vax and pro-mandates and pro-lockdowns and the opposing contingent (myself included) who are much more in line with the average opinion in these discussions (although you won't find the level of medical detail in the discussion here or discussion of any occult/demonic causes).
There have been ongoing discussions over the last 1.5 years and everyone's positions have hardened.
I just want to report that there is absolutely no softening in the pro-lockdown crowd's views, and on the contrary they think the vaccines are amazing and have done their job and it's perfectly understandable that the efficacy is dropping and there's nothing wrong with having a booster every 6 months, and that (in all seriousness) they think there should be higher taxes on the unvaccinated to fund the (presumed) extra medical care we require and I was taken to task for being selfish and not caring about my fellow humans for not being vaccinated. They are strongly supportive of vaccine mandates and vaccine passports and feel any new restrictions are entirely the fault of the unvaccinated.
(Not from my group but Nassim Taleb of all people - who wrote so well about unforeseen consequences and the importance of skin in the game and black swans - has become a real COVID zealot - he is in support of higher taxes/costs for the unvaccinated and when someone pointed out the smoking example, he literally posted on Twitter that "Anti-vaxxers can choose to get the vaccine, but smokers' condition is not in their control" - quite a few tweets replying to him were along the lines of "did you seriously just write that?" - he also picked a fight with Edward Snowden and called him a fraud on Twitter, which is just bizarre, because whether you approve or disapprove of Snowden, he is by definition someone who has skin in the game and literally threw away his life and risked a lifetime of jail - and got a lifetime of exile - for his principles, which is what Taleb is all about - skin in the game).
Basically every PMC cliche is alive and well and the conviction of those that believe in it is completely unshaken (the best you can hope for is that they will fall silent which sometimes happens when things like Fauci's mask flip flopping is pointed out). But I'd get laughed at if I said anything about ADE - they are completely convinced that the vaccines work etc. Long way to go before people like that change their minds.
