It's getting on for midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. Any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. (Any question received after then will not get an answer, and will likely just be deleted.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.0 of The Magic Monday FAQ here
I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use the button above to access my online tip jar. If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.
I've also had quite a few people over the years ask me where they should buy my books, and here's the answer. Bookshop.org is an alternative online bookstore that supports local bookstores and authors, which a certain other gargantuan corporation doesn't, and I now have a shop there, which you can check out here. Please consider patronizing it if you'd like to purchase any of my books online.
And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.
With that said, have at it!
***This Magic Monday is now closed. See you next week!***
I just got done reading the Demon section of Monsters and the whole concept that you talk about where they came from a different universe is fascinating.
1. You mention that we might have had no contact with demons but for an unfortunate turn in our evolutionary history. Could you explain a bit more about what could have caused that?
2. Given that it's possible demons come from a different universe that destroyed itself why is there optimism from most people about our universe? Is it possible that we could become so unbalanced that we destroy or universe and become some other universe's demons?
On your second question: the way I have understood it is that the "demonic universe" was unstable and lasted only a short time. Our universe is far more stable and it seems pretty unlikely we could destroy it (though our planet is a different matter). Also, I seem to recall being told that because the prior universe lasted only a relatively short time, the entities now known as our demons did not undergo significant development there. Hence, they arrived in our universe's lowest, basest level of reality. Human beings have had far more time to develop and evolve in our various spiritual and nonphysical aspects. I'm speaking here from pure memory and I could be wrong about all this.
1) There are various theories, but it's the event that comes down to us in mythical terms as the Fall.
2) There's a difference between a universe destroying itself and a universe being destroyed by some of its inhabitants. According to the set of teachings I follow, each universe goes through a life cycle of immense length, and then comes to an end. Certain spiritual beings, due to their own imbalances, are left behind at the end of one universe and have to work out their salvation in the next. In the same way, when our universe comes to its natural end countless aeons from now, doubtless there will be some beings left over who have to do the same thing. (That's not something to worry about now; our universe is still expanding, so it's early days yet.)
Does this mean that at the end of the universe, some spiritual beings survive the destruction, or actively create new universes. Presumably the latter would mean merging with the unmanifest and then starting out again?
No. Beings don't create universes; universes create beings. The beings who become demons in a new universe were the evolutionary failures of the last universe, the ones who got themselves so deeply wedged into imbalance that they couldn't unstick themselves even when everything else drew back together rejoicing into unity. So there they sat, gnawing themselves in the void for immensities of time, until the new universe finally got far enough along for beings to contact them -- and they've made our lives more, er, interesting since then.
