Midnight is breathing down our necks and so it's time to launch a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism, and with certain exceptions noted below, any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. Please note: Any question or comment received after that point will not get an answer, and in fact will just be deleted. Also: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says. And further: I've decided that questions about getting goodies from spirits are also permanently off topic here. The point of occultism is to develop your own capacities, not to try to bully or wheedle other beings into doing things for you. I've discussed this in a post on my blog.

The image? I field a lot of questions about my books these days, so I've decided to do little capsule summaries of them here, one per week. This is my sixth-fourth published book and sixteenth novel, and it's a sequel to my first novel, The Fires of Shalsha. Like that earlier novel, Journey Star is set on the second planet of Epsilon Eridani, which in the story was colonized two centuries back by a generation ship from Earth; like the earlier novel, it starts with a standard sort of conflict between seeming good and evil, but doesn't stay there. Having villains who are bad just because the heroes need someone to scorn and annihilate makes for dreary fiction; maybe, just maybe, even the most monstrous actions can be justified or even necessary in the eyes of those who do them...

And that's all I'm going to say about this strangest (so far) of my novels. All things considered, I think it worked fairly well. If you're interested, you can get copies here if you're in the United States and here if you're elsewhere.

At the beginning of January, I took a bath with ingredients designed to help me with aspects of my personality that are affected by the sun. The bath worked; for several days afterwards, I was more energetic and confident. It was a positive change, but after several days, I reverted back to my old self again.
How do I integrate these solar energies in a more permanent fashion?

That's the problem with any form of natural magic -- it's skin deep, and wears off after a while. You have at least three choices:

1) Take a similar bath once a week during the hour and day of the Sun. Over time, this will gradually pull you in a more solar direction.

2) Use solar herbs and stones to make an amulet and wear it as often as possible.

3) Pay close attention to the differences you notice from the bath -- that capacity for being energetic and confident is always there within you, you just need to activate it consciously. Meditation and journaling will help you get past the barriers you've put in place to keep yourself from accessing that capacity.

You can do all three of these things at once, by the way.

Not the OP - I have a very challenging situation at work every Friday. Would any of the measures you mentioned be as effective if applied on a Thursday night?

Nothing like as effective, though you might get some results. Magic is best done with plenty of advance warning.

So, could Solar magic from Sunday be effective until Friday then?

Yes. I recommend repeating it every Sunday so that you build up a steady charge of solar influence, affecting your entire life, Fridays included.

If I wanted to apply a similar strategy to build willpower and self-discipline, would Mars be the planet of choice?

Willpower is Mars, but self-discipline is Saturn. Mars flings himself with all his might in a chosen direction; Saturn remains, endures, limits, controls.

Thanks for clarifying! Is it possible to work with them in conjunction - Mars to provide the hammer and Saturn the anvil, so to speak?

Only if you want to be roasted cherry red in the fire and then pounded flat. Those are two very harsh planets; unless they're extremely well dignified in your chart, I recommend invoking them one at a time, and in very modest doses.

May I ask what your solar bath contained? I could use some of those nowadays...
