It occurs to me that the next administration could cut federal spending and improve US science no end by the simple step of making any person who's had a research paper retracted for fraud ineligible for any further Federal grants. Right now there are tens of thousands of serial fraudsters in the sciences, whose only punishment for faking research is a slap on the wrist and a bad writeup on Retraction Watch.
