Magic Monday

The Secret of the TempleMidnight is  here, and so it's time to launch a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism, and with certain exceptions, any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. Please note:  Any question or comment received after then will not get an answer, and in fact will just be deleted.  If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.1 of The Magic Monday FAQ here

Also:
I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says.  And further:  I've decided that questions about getting goodies from spirits are also permanently off topic here. The point of occultism is to develop your own capacities, not to try to bully or wheedle other beings into doing things for you. I've discussed this in a post on my blog.

The
image? I field a lot of questions about my books these days, so I've decided to do little capsule summaries of them here, one per week. The book above was my fortieth published book, and the product of an investigation that's still ongoing. I happened to notice back in the early 1990s, as a result of voracious reading in odd books, that a surprising number of temple traditions around the world are connected to legends about increased agricultural fertility. I know, that's supposed to be mere superstition -- but it's funny how often "mere superstition" turns into evidence that the ancients knew more than it's fashionable for modern intellectuals to admit. That launched a quest that resulted in this book. I've come to theorize that woven into the design and use of certain specific kinds of temples is a lost folk technology that boosts agricultural productivity. I've collected physical evidence (including controlled double-blind studies) that there are energies known to science that could have been concentrated and put to use with resonating chambers of stone, designed according to specific geometries, filled with volatile organic compounds, and activated with sound waves. What's more, it's a technology that could be rediscovered and put to work to help plants thrive now.

This book was my first progress report on that investigation.  It's about to go out of print -- Llewellyn, the original publisher, still has a few copies left on sale, which you can get here -- but there'll be another edition in due time, and probably a further book not too long after that, as I'm continuing to find relevant data. Yes, there are also other people busy with this; the prospect of a working model, so that the details of the technology can be tested in real world conditions, may not be far off.

Ko-Fi

I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use either of the links above to access my online tip jar; Buymeacoffee is good for small tips, Ko-Fi is better for larger ones. (I used to use PayPal but they developed an allergy to free speech, so I've developed an allergy to them.) If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.

Bookshop logoI've also had quite a few people over the years ask me where they should buy my books, and here's the answer. Bookshop.org is an alternative online bookstore that supports local bookstores and authors, which a certain gargantuan corporation doesn't, and I have a shop there, which you can check out here. Please consider patronizing it if you'd like to purchase any of my books online.

And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.

With that said, have at it!

***This Magic Monday is now closed, and no further comments will be put through. See you next week!***

Thank you, JMG, for your generosity of time and moderating so many spaces.

Not long ago I described my spiritual practice on this forum. It is very basic and includes gardening, exercise and meditation in the woods or greenway around my house.

It goes something like this:

At sunrise I go through the woods onto the greenway near my house. After saying thank you in all four directions, I walk and exercise in the woods (moderate exercise, old body). On the way home I sit under some very specific trees (they invited me to sit) and meditate/pray.

I have found that my day goes much better with this practice.

Since beginning this practice I see numbers together in sequence every day- even when I wake in the middle of the night.

Yesterday, my gardening day, I was thinking to myself. “I don’t know what is real. Maybe Native American Indians never existed and someone just told me that they did”.

Shortly after I had that thought I found an arrowhead-like scraping tool in one of my raised beds. It was sitting right on the surface.

I don’t know what any of this means. And I am starting to believe that I have opened some sort of connection to unseen dimensions.

I am inspired to continue to be very grateful and I remain in awe of things I cannot “see”.

Thank you for letting me share. Any commentary is welcome.

Best,
Rooby Alien

John sir I've had a similar experience happen to me as the OP and I would like to know your opinion on it. In fact unlike the OP, I had an surprisingly positive experience:

A few days ago, I decided to start my path of initiation into the Tree of Life by pathworking from the 4 elements and working my way up the Holy Tree of Life.

I started with elemental Earth by visualizing the earth symbol (downward triangle with a horizontal line in the middle) and passed through the gate and immediately came upon a lush green forest. A few seconds of walking through revealed an 'alchemist' working in his open spaced lab at the bottom of a massive tree.

He told me he is an alchemist of the earth element and is conducting his research to help the gnomes. I asked whether he can help me with something. He agreed and told me to make a paper talisman with his name on top and the symbol of earth in the middle with the godname of earth on the bottom and to use any psalm of my liking. I asked for his preferred incense and he prefers Sandalwood or Musk (I own sticks).

I conveyed him my doubts about the authenticity of this pathworking and he said to try and see for myself because he has nothing to gain but my trust by being truthful and that was the end of the pathworking. I initially wanted to meet Ghob for my request but this guy was just perfectly present at the gate.

I wrote down the experience and did a geomantic divination asking whether this spirit was a genuine entity and the reading came back extremely positive in almost all houses so much so that I had no choice but to do the ritual as instructed by him and see for myself. His name is just three letters different from a character from the works of Tolkien so I was just full of doubt and still am.

What should I do? Should I try pathworking to Ghob again or should I go back to him and ask more questions about his nature its relationship to the element of earth?

If Ghob had given me this talismanic design, then I would have no doubts about it but the fact that the divination was completely in agreement with my question is unavoidable.

This may be getting rather off topic, but my local paper picked up an editorial from the Los Angeles Times today titled "Generative AI could hamper fight against climate change." Quote "Google AI takes 10 times as much electricity to process a result as a regular Google search, according to one analysis." (No source for the analysis.) The editorial goes on to describe the problems caused by increased electrical demand. It does seem that awareness is growing that we need to be a bit more practical about the actual costs of AI...

Thanks for this... Those Western Way books were by John & Caitlin Matthews. I only had the first one and gave it away, not the second one. This stuff looks very interesting indeed.

About the needles falling on their own: I have seen this before, though in milder forms. In my experience the opposite case is much more common, where the flesh will cling to the needle and make it hard to remove.
Generally speaking, the inability to hold the needle would suggest a case of deficiency/depletion. Deficiency of what, precisely? that would require proper diagnosis, but for the sake of conversation we could say your Qi "battery" is not being recharged properly and the body complains due to the low "voltage". All the usual recommendations to restore the life force should apply: plenty of sleep, fresh air, clean water, sun exposure; a balanced diet with abundant fresh produce; moderate exercise, specially those that make you breath deeply and rhythmically.
From an occult perspective, you may want to check what might be "draining your battery". Check into your routine and your relationships, looking for situations that produce negative emotions. Do divination if you know how to. Also, keep a daily protective ritual if you already have one, or resort to the red bag amulet in Magic Monday FAQ.

(1.) I think I might have this which is odd because nobody would ever accuse me of being empathetic. Usually they say I'm an insensitive jerk in fact.

1) Do you know what was going on with all the mystical stuff wrt numbers etc in ancient greece (pythagoras, pre-socratics etc)?

2) Similarly you've at a time posited that jungian archetypes are the neoplatonic forms/noeta noemata that we dimly perceive; could you talk more about that and how those are external phenomena vs things that are filters (time, space, math etc)?

I’ve been through the Octagon Society and beyond and now passing through again. The work has sorted out many, many issues and put me on a clear path to goals I never thought I could achieve. So all seems to be on the upswing except for the stubborn, cranky migraines.

The geomancy genius has been consulted and says, no the migraines won’t kill you and they won’t last till your dying day, but not much beyond that.

Yes, maybe I do need to get out yet another old notebook and question my subconscious directly about the matter! Thanks

On 2, I had some of this ego inflation when the kundalini flow was very heavy but I kept it under control via a lot of discipline.

All the posts on the kundalini subreddit were around trying to ground the energy, move it downwards etc. I'm wondering what exactly is going on here, why does the energy get stuck in the head and why does it cause this type of grandiosity specifically (until later when it cleared up and some of my psycho-emotional issues cleared up)? Are these like buried self-image issues its bringing up?

2) Similarly, on the subreddits I've read warning of imbalanced Kundalini awakenings which have to do with too much mental energy causing full blown delusions, out of body experiences etc. It seems to be screwing with the "narrative creation" part of the mind, so to speak.

What are your thoughts?

I think it was me, and I'm glad you liked it. I've finished it, but still need to go through and take notes on all the specialized Greek terms he used.
At the same time that I read this I also was looking over some stuff that drew a comparison between japa practice and Hesychastic prayer (the Prayer of the Heart, as it's sometimes called) and somehow I came to think that understanding exactly the meaning of the name or the words of the prayer can actually be a hindrance. I am currently working with a very short prayer to Apollo, silently, and trying to feel a) that praying to the God puts me in the presence of the God, and that there is a reciprocal flow between the God and me; and b) trying to feel the prayer in my Heart as a revolving energy, similar to the feeling I get when I extend a blessing to someone or something a la the MOE. When I find myself thinking too much about what the Greek means, I just say to myself "No, just say the prayer". Shaw talks about the comparison to the prayer of the heart I believe.
I'm happy you read and enjoyed that book.

Sorry for the barrage of questions. I forgot to ask — I have a statue of her we were instructed to have and recite the mantras in front of…how should I deal with that one?

An intention to solve a conflict

(Anonymous) 2024-08-19 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
We are currently facing a mostly slowly-smoldering conflict with a person we have economic ties to. The person in question has shown a very weird, irrational and abusive behaviour to us on several occasions. There's little point in talking because usually, once said person recognizes that we will not cave in to her demands, she will start a litany of threats, insults and gas-lighting. I truly haven't had to deal with somebody like this before.

On the physical plane we are considering some rather tough measures to block this behaviour against us and put up some deterrence - divination has been rather positive in this regard. However, I am pondering to work on the subtle level, too, and are working on an appropriate intention. I am generally open to different solutions of this conflict - so the intention I came up with is "The conflict with X is solved in a way that is acceptable for all involved". It could be used as an affirmation or possibly I'd adapt the SOP correspondingly on every second day, once a week, something like that. Divination is mildly positive so far, underscoring that this intention will dissipate energy and reduce tensions.

I'd like to ask, anyway, what you think about this approach in the situation we're facing.

Thank you!

This is actually easier than you might think. There are numerous simple exorcism and consecration rituals available everywhere, including on line, and similarly numerous tables of correspondences. Simply find a simple ritual that will allow you to exorcise the ring to begin with (ie clean it so it doesn't have foreign energies attached to it) and then compose a simple ritual to consecrate it to the archangel Michael, using a suitable time and day, and an appropriately colored candle and incense. The whole affair might take no more than ten or fifteen minutes to perform and will be effective. As time goes on and you gain knowledge and experience you can create more sophisticated rituals that will potentize your ring. The John Gilbert book on the Tarot has some very easy and useful ideas for consecrating that can be adapted. The first thing, though, is to decide to start, and then to , well, ...start.

No, that's quite okay, thank you all the same and thank you for providing this space.

My blessings to you if you will have them?

Kind regards,

Rob

Ooh interesting, thanks, I shall have to look into this.

I thought I had put it in the original post, apparently not, but my theory on it when I was younger was that I was sensing some kind of developed psychic energy in a person. Possibly because I was getting that tingle more from people I later found out were practicing psychics.

From your interpretation could it be something similar such as
sensing another persons energy that resonates with me in someway?

Ok so the noeta are external to us, and the archetypes are internal and are perceptual filters or images through which the noeta (which presumably are mental plane and above in nature) are encountered?

And the archetypes are basically a psychic layer above the core instinct/neurological patterns or like a mental correlate to them?
