Castle in the Air is a sequel of sorts to Howl's moving castle, and is in no way the basis for the Laputa/Castle in the Sky movie, fwiw. Totally separate stories. Amusingly, Diana's Howl *was* the basis for the Ghibli movie of the same name... but they are very different stories-- Miyazaki was more riffing on the book than retelling it.
