1) That's something each mage has to figure out individually. It's your decision when to cast a divination and when to rely on intuition or simply stubbornness -- and in either case you will learn something.

2) In that case I don't recommend casting a reading at all. The consecration is an act of will, and faith that it worked is part of that same act of will.
