Magic Monday

It's midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. The picture? I'm working my way through photos of my lineage, focusing on the teachers whose work has influenced me and the teachers who influenced them in turn. I'm currently tracing my Martinist lineage, and at this point we've reached a genuine man of mystery, Jacques de Livron Joachim de la Tour de la Casa Martinez de Pasqually. Nobody knows when Martinez de Pasqually was born or where he came from; what's known about him is that he showed up in southern France in 1754, taught an extraordinarily rich system of Gnostic esoteric philosophy and practice to a circle of pupils that included Louis-Claude de St.-Martin and Jean-Baptiste Willermoz, and then sailed away to the Caribbean in 1772 and reportedly died there two years later. The image I've posted is one of the very few portraits of the man.

I have, for some time, been contemplating getting a small icon of St. Evagrios, to put on the computer.

He had some fairly pointed things to say about acedia, which seems to be one of the major players in the pathology of the internet.

My point was to try to see moments of friction as the lessons they actually are, and (at least for me) trodding slowly along my path has worked better than trying to bite off more than i can chew.

I agree with everything you said.
This is why I just posted the link, said I will not go into it, and asked about a train of thought that this inspired.

As for the rest. Let each reader, if inclined, read up and make his own mind.
Me I would perhaps look into taking a vacation there and putting on my clearest skeptics goggles:-)

When one learns the planet associated to their almuten figuris/HGA, Does that mean the highest scored planet holds the most energy/influence on a person? In sprirtual practice are you essentially working to balance them all out?

A follow up question if I may: can the same danger be realised for other modalities, for example reiki healers? There are many in the area, which to me indicates a population that has an interest in these ideas, but not all are created equal. How important is intention during these practices compared to actual ability or capacity (to call upon reiki energy, for example)? Or are they in fact the same thing, assuming that the ability that one has to hold a clear and focused intention is indeed the power behind such practices?

I had undertaken the Level 1 initiation into Reiki before I new what the etheric plane was and was latterly very pleased to read your lesson on the Etheric Plane in the Occult Workbook as it really joined up the dots for me.

A seed has been germinating for some time within me and finding your works has really opened up a clear and exciting path for growth! Thanks for this.

Goddard brought a certain intellectual depth and coherence to the idea of manifestation that makes it more compelling than the pop culture The Secret stuff. He also seems to have had a serious familiarity with the Cabala.

I think the weakness of his method is that it works exceptionally well for someone like NG who had a naturally rich imaginative faculty. For more ordinary people the symbolic work and study of occultism is useful. Also, some followers of his work seem to me to exaggerate what his Law of Assumption can be expected to accomplish.

Not the OP: but is it possible for a house to simply have... bad juju such that it attracts dysfunctional people to live there? If so, is there any remedy for it, or is it just one of those things the neighborhood is stuck with?

FWIW, I think we still have both types in the world, because the world needs both.

The OSA work is ongoing for me, and likely part of my clarity on the issue - I'll certainly continue with it. I'll read further into the Modern Order of Essenes lesson for some tools that may help with focus and prioritization. Thank you!

What is it that will change in 4000 years?

Are you doing extensive massage of the affected area? Our hands are a natural channel for healing energy, especially the fingertips, so any type of manual massage will be therapeutic. In the case of connective tissue injuries, massage is also useful for breaking up any redundant scar tissue that naturally builds up during the healing process.

Also, if your injury occurred where it did in any way due to etheric or astral parasites affecting your larger subtle-plane ecosystem, then channeling healing energy through your fingers to that region can help to dissolve those blockages and curses as well. You wouldn't want the immediate injury to heal only to then recur due to its underlying subtle causes remaining unaddressed. You don't have to know how to identify each parasite or the mechanism by which each one imbalances you in order to do effective clearing work on them, although those skills can speed up the process. Just massage the area, putting in extra time and attention on any points of pain or discomfort.

Any area too tender to tolerate massage can simply be held under your fingertips, while directing healing and rebalancing energy into the pain, until it eventually resolves enough to begin benefiting from massage. As with pretty much everything else in life, if the area ends up hurting more rather than less after you massage it, then you went a little overboard with the massage work, so go a bit gentler the next time.

Paying attention to and caring for your body are so much more healing than we've been hypnotized into believing. Explore your injury — learn what it likes and dislikes. Nurture it as you get to know it, and pretty soon you will have befriended it. After all, it came to you bearing some message that you hadn't been able to hear through less forceful means. If you can fully learn whatever it came to teach you, it may never feel the need to come back to you again. Who knows, you might even find yourself missing that little messenger when it finally goes away!

Thanks JMG, for the clarification and encouragement. At the ripe old age of 64, with your help over these past many years, I feel as if I'm just beginning to get my bearings on a much bigger picture. What a long, strange trip it has been...

No, but even without that you can learn to work with rather than against retrogrades. The trick here is to focus on things that begin with "re-" in English. For example, during Mercury retrogrades, I revise manuscripts, review older projects, research things I'll be writing about later on, and return emails (but don't originate many). When Jupiter is retrograde I review and revise my financial plans, and research new options, and so on. In my experience, at least, doing that leads to considerable benefits; the time spent during the retrograde then becomes the foundation for success once the planet gets going again.

1) A rather technical question: I am finding it problematic to understand sublimation / degradation in the sense that I find it hard to imagine to (physically) dissolve physical matter and put it back together on the astral plane, for example. Yesterday during meditation the thought occurred to me that maybe it's not about sublimating/degrading the matter of any plane (at least not for a tiny human being) but sublimating/degrading configurations of matter?

2) A more personal question: The veil that separates "me" from remembering memories of past lives, perceive beyond the physical senses has always been translucent to some degree. After starting regular spiritual practice, it seems to have become slightly more translucent, which I don't mind at all. Yesterday evening, though, I pondered your answer from last week about the lower/higher self, cosmic atom, etc. Out of nowhere there was an experience that I can only circumscribe with the image of a snail that quickly backs away into it's house when you put your hand or some obstacle close to it. It was basically the opposite experience compared to sudden glimpses of hidden realities. It seemed to be an automatic and rather unpleasant reaction. During the day, the snail has slowly left the house again, so to say. Is there anything you can say about such experiences?

3) More generally: The emotional intensity of memories comes with the identification with the content. How much identification comes with memories of previous lives? Is there, for example, a difference in the experience of painful memories of this life compared to previous ones?

The spring equinox is now in the sign of Aquarius, which was traditionally ruled by Saturn -- by the calculation I used, it entered Aquarius in late 1879. While it's in the Saturnine signs of Aquarius and Capricorn, magic will be at its lowest ebb, just as it's strongest during the ages of Leo and Cancer.
