1) Alchemist's Handbook by Frater Albertus (aka Albert Reidel), The Path of Alchemy by Mark Stavish, and Spagyrics by Manfred Junius are worth your while. Beyond that, it's time to tackle the original texts; the Hermetic Museum, long out of copyright and downloadable for free, is a good place to start:

2) That's one of the cutting edges of occult experimentation these days. My experience is that yes, it works in at least some cases.

3) No, quite the contrary. Playing a barbarian will help you understand your own anger, so you can make it conscious and choose to use or not use it. RPGs are underrated as instruments for self-knowledge. (I played a lot of D&D back in the day, in case you were wondering -- yes, this was back when it was staplebound booklets.)
