Well worth the trek to hear Stephen Hoeller lecture in person. I heard someone say he's 90 -- I can believe it. Dressed in a coat and tie -- definitely the European gentleman. Maybe 5' tall, and physically frail, but his mind is still sharp: a two hour lecture with a half page handwritten outline -- no stumbling or hesitation at all. His topic was a spiritual exegesis of The Lord of the Rings -- fun! After his lecture he remained seated and spoke to whomever wanted to speak with him -- completely gracious and welcoming. I spoke with him maybe 5 minutes, and he was sincerely engaged. I can hardly imagine more opposite of hubris and 'tin god'. (I'll be going back!
