It really depends on what kind of sacred site, how it was consecrated, and what kind of work was done there. If it was a genuine megalithic site, that stays sacred until the stones are destroyed or removed, and the blowback isn't just a matter of karma -- sudden violent thunderstorms tend to spring up when a genuine megalithic site is tampered with.
