I have found it useful to meditate on Levi's distinction between sorcerers and magicians, sorcery being the use of magical techniques to accomplish the unenlightened will of the sorcerer who does not understand what he is but is simply using occult means to gain power. I relate this to the difference between occultists who have attained knowledge and conversation of their HGA and other peak experiences. There's a sense of a distinction between those who understand their place in the cosmos and knowingly act in harmony with it and those who are blindly trying to fulfil more mundane human ends with magic.
