Fortune was a Christian -- an eccentric sort of Christian, to be sure, but a Christian -- and so she was stuck having to come up with some rhetorical gimmick to distinguish her god from all other gods. I don't suffer from that limitation, and so I can set aside the gimmick and make use of the many other valuable things in her book.
