Goblins, fairies, and other creatures of the same sort all belong to the same category of nature spirits; goblins are spirits of caves and rocks, while fairies are spirits of woods and green spaces. They live in the same world we do -- most human beings these days have just been taught not to notice them, as part of our culture's general prohibition against noticing the enchanted side of existence.
