Lévi was strongly influenced by late medieval grimoire magic, which saw the elements as hostile to the human will and insisted on dominating them. The Rosicrucians were the first Western occult tradition to break with that unhelpful view and greet the elements and their spirits as friends; that same view was taken up by Druids quite early on. My background includes Druid and Rosicrucian initiations and teachings, and I have always found the elements and their spirits to be cooperative if approached in a respectful and friendly manner; this was also the way John Gilbert taught his students to work. It's always worked well for me -- thus it went into the Golden Section work.
